A short profile on: Rachael Barrett

Fashion designer Rachael Barrett is quickly becoming a favourite within the fashion industry despite only graduating from university last Summer. Although her name maybe unheard of among the masses, right now this 24-year-old is one to look out for.
Many may be familiar with seeing pop sensation, Lady Gaga, wearing Rachael’s silicone dresses on her Monster Ball tour and in music videos such as ‘Bad Romance’ and ‘Telephone’ (above). Rachael states that in her short career having Gaga wear her designs is the most exciting thing to happen so far. “Gaga’s such a favourite, she wears the pieces so well, I loved making [the pieces] for her” she explains. Nicola Formichetti, who is Gaga’s stylist, asked if he could take some pieces of her silicone collection to Los Angeles to show the fashion forward performer, which ultimately resulted in a positive outcome for this young designer.
Besides Gaga, Rachael’s other clientele has recently consisted of Gabriella Cilmi and Jared Leto and has been asked to create a bespoke piece for him to wear on his UK tour which she describes as “a childhood fantasy come to life.”
She insists that choosing a career in design was her destiny, “I loved art and design at school, it all happened quite naturally, which makes me feel very lucky [that I’ve had] no nightmares trying to decide what to do with my life.”
Barrett, orginally from Glasgow studied Womenswear at the Edinburgh College of Art before moving to London to further her knowledge of fashion design at the Royal College of Art. Her favorite designers are Prada, Calvin Klein and Celine.
From being inspired by photographers Corinne Day and Julia Margaret Cameron because of the ghostly quality their work reflects to historical designs of menswear, she claims that materials however, are her biggest inspiration. “An interesting material could determine an entire collection” and her collection that has got Gaga going gaga is completely defined by silicone, an unlikely choice for a collection that she describes as uber-feminine.
During her 1st and 2nd year at the Royal College of Art she did an internship with Philips Design where she experimented with silicone and after working with it on a small scale she was then inspired to work with it on a larger scale and volia the silicone dresses have arrived.
For the past 5 years this up-and-coming designer has been working very hard and has only had fashion on her mind but besides from designing she enjoys exploring London. She ventures to RD Franks for magazines, Sister Ray ,in Soho, for music, Tate Modern and the Victoria & Albert for inspiration and Bang Bang Vintage for bargains.
Despite the sudden interest in her creations Rachael remains grounded and believes she still has a lot to learn therefore her next goal is to get more industry experience.
So will we see Miss Barrett’s collection in store anytime soon? “Plan for 2010, get some stockists” she laughs.

alcohol is making life a little blurry

I guess many of you feel the same, no?
Well life has been somewhat of a blur a couple of days this week. First of all Saint Patricks Day and last night.
I know you could just blame the Irish for my drunken behaviour but that can't be the case because yesterday was just a simple Friday evening...oh jeez louise i hate not remembering snippets of the night, for one I probably said/did something ridiculous and thought I was amazing at the time and two I kinda missed out on what was probably a good night! Apparently we were playing drinking games and I dread to think what concoctions we created!
Ohwell, there is always next time...now where did my cocktail go...hmm... ;) I joke ...only because all the alcohol has been consumed!
Today I haven't left the house, feel too rough so had an early chinese with my mother who has now passed out on the bed...haven't seen her in weeks and i've already bored her to sleep lol. I hate wasting Saturdays :( but then again the weather doesn't look too cracky!

Hello Sunshine...

The sun is shining but I have a feeling it's going to be cold outside. It's lovely to sit inside and pretend Summer is upon us...although I know it's not, unfortunately!
Well to start my day I tried my first ever green smoothie, and was pleasantly surprised! It looked disgusting but tasted quite good and very healthy. Spinach, banana and strawberries all blended! Hopefully I will have  lots of energy for the rest of the day.

GAGA OOH LAA LAA

Just WOW!

I went to see my inspiration, the one and only, Lady Gaga on Saturday night at the o2 arena and I was blown away to a land of freedom! Seriously I know you are all probably thinking 'of course Jordan is going to blow Gaga's trumpet as she's a huuuge fan' but wow wow wow! She is the BEST performer of our time! When was the last time we witnessed a true artist? Someone who writes their own music? Creates the whole show? and well sees her career as her true love?!
For all you little monsters who were unfortunate and got lost on the glitter way (in other words didn't make it to the Monster Ball) don't rip your hair out just yet as Gaga has just announced that she will be doing a few more shows in the UK as of May! Yay!!! Still disheartened that you won't be able to go? Oh i hear your cries but at least you will be able to purchase a 3D DVD of the Monster Ball ...How amazing!!!
Anyway, on Saturday the show oozed so much energy with the dancing, the powerful vocals , the lights and stage props, the crowd added that extra pinch of energy singing and dancing along to the show!
By far the most amazing show on earth ;)
