Life is full of wonderful things...

In the 1960‘s there was a poor little rich girl named Edie Sedgwick, she was New York’s It Girl, for only one year. Known by many as Andy Warhol’s ‘Superstar’, she was much more than his disposable beauty. Edie was, and still is, a style icon who died far too young.

This photograph portrays Edie’s signature look, a black leotard, large decorative earrings, heavy eye makeup, cropped hair, her fabulous beauty spot and of course a cigarette in hand. Her style was completely original. This image could be of a model from today not back in the sixties, nothing about Edie seems dated. She is a timeless style icon and many agree.
If we look back just four years ago, in 2005, Edie’s unique look was purposely recreated by John Galliano for Dior’s Spring collection.“She may have only had 15 minutes of fame, but her style and image influenced a whole generation. Edie danced to her own tune, that is what inspired me” said Galliano.
That same year Sienna Miller stepped into Edie’s shoes to film Factory Girl, a story of Edie’s short tragic life. Sienna said that “Edie wasn’t around for a long time. But what I find fascinating is that she had an impact in such a short time. She manages to be timeless and I think she will have an energy which will last.”
Designer, Betsey Johnson, who used Edie as her first fitting model says; “Edie had not only the look, she had the head, the body, she had the screwed up background, she was gorgeous, she was one in a zillion, I was an Edie wannabe”.
Betsey also goes onto explain why Edie’s 60s style is so influential;  “The style base of 60s clothes has been used constantly by designers since the 60s and they’ve never gotten better than the 60s”. Edie also inspired Johnson to name one of her dresses ‘The Edie Sedgwick Dress’, it was a dress with a crisscross back.
In August 1965 Edie was branded a Vogue ‘Youthquacker’ and in the September Life Magazine dedicated a whole fashion layout to her. By 1966 Edie’s look had taken over and girls everywhere were copying her.
Vogue described the icon as “white haired with anthracite-black eyes and legs to swoon over”, but she was never invited into ‘family at Vogue’ because eventually "she was identified in the gossip columns with the drug scene, people were really terrified by it... drugs had done so much damage to young, creative, brilliant people that we were just anti that scene as a policy" says Vogue’s senior editor, Gloria Schiff.
Celebrity milliner Stephan Jones even described Edie as the first punk.
Sadly, Edie’s style couldn’t save her from the heavy drugs and she died at just the age of 28.
“I don’t feel like trying on clothes, why do I have to try on clothes?” - Edie Sedgwick ‘Poor Little Rich Girl’

HO HO HO HOME FOR CHRISTMAS...

Today I drove back to my home town for Christmas so it was goodbye to London and hello Norfolk! Oh how fabulous...
Although I am not too fond of my home town I am actually pleased to be back for a while to see the family and of course my adorable chihuahua, Lola.
Oh and now it's snowing how very festive! Talking of festivities, yesterday I drove to Kingston for a spot of shopping wearing so many sequins I resembled a Christmas decoration and it began to snow I had a cheesy smile on my face...LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW,LET IT SNOWWWW!

UPDATE...KINDA LATE!

Well I haven't been very blog savvy this month so here's an update:

The most exciting thing that has happened since I last wrote is that I got the delicious PRADA bag I was harping on about ...I'm in love...who need's guys when a bag can make you feel fabulous everyday! Other shopping news...I have been treating myself a bit this month, and should probably buy some Christmas presents oops, and I got some glittery LOUBOUTINS, (Described by Louboutin as ; 'Lady Lynch Multicolor Miniglitter) they are just the preetiest court shoes ever and very festive - how season appropriate, how could I possibly deny my feet of such pleasure?!
I have a plan not to look at my bank balance...

Edie Sedgwick RIP x

The late stunning superstar Edie Sedgwick died 38 years ago today...RIP fashionista. Edie (Edith Minturn) Sedgwick who died at just 28 after a drug overdose would have been 66 if she was still on earth. Hope you're having a fabulous party up there...cocktails,eyeliner and cigarettes darling xo

If you're a fan of Edie check out the book 'Edie:Girl on Fire' by David Weisman and Melissa Painter. I love it - fab pictures and quotes...

Prada is love but may hurt your bank balance...

While in Westfields shopping centre on Friday I fell in love with another Prada bag! Don't 'tut' me just yet - I resisted the urge to buy this beautiful creation! The bag is from Prada's 2010 Resort collection (the orange and pink one to be exact - feel free to treat me *mwah*) It was just over £800, I didn't think this price was too bad until my friend, who I was shopping with at the time, frowned at me a suggested we went to Starbucks for a coffee to think about the bag before I impulsively purchased it...Damn to sensible shoppers! So right now my new Prada is still in store calling my name...<3

Alexander Mcqueen . . .Plato's Atlantis...

1417719458_400.jpg

When I first saw these fabulous fierce creations I just thought...'ouch! can anyone possibly walk or even stand in them?!' Then I saw the models at Mcqueen's show trotting down the runway and I only saw a few wobbles! Well done girls! ...these are truly more than just shoes, they are art! This explains why Lady Gaga would wear the collection throughout her 'Bad Romance' video...amazing!!!!!!

Check out the video below to see the brilliant Lady Gaga wearing Mcqueen's Plato's Atlantis collection in the official music video for Bad Romance...

Edie Edie Edie...

I got my "Edie - Girl on fire" book today, yay - now just waiting for the Ciao!Manhattan tapes!
I just think Edie Sedgwick is just wonderful and wonderfully beautiful but also ruined.

"I'm a little nervous about saying anything about the artist [Andy], because it kind of sticks him right between the eyes, but he deserves it, He really fucked up a great many young people's lives." -Edie

Speaking of my birthday...my mummy just gave me a little cupcake as a mini pre-birthday cake as I won't see her next week , so cute. M&S all the way...

Party Plan...I haven't got one...

I'm currently sitting at my dressing table in my house in King's Lynn, missing Epsom slightly. Dreaming of what to do on my birthday next Saturday. I know I will be in central London but not too sure of what amazing place to take my girlies to. I should be on my other blog 'must I write?' my heart says 'yes!' doing my mirror style blog but inspiration still hasn't come.
All I know about my birthday is that I will be drinking lots of cosmopolitans. I don't usually look that unimpressed ^^when indulging in the delicious cocktail by the way! So time to research a place to have drinkies and to dance in our fabulous dresses...Oh no! I need to find a dress too!! So location is - London? , Birthday dress is - calling my name somewhere!!? Time to search...
